PAN Asia Pacific is seeking your assistance to help our partner organisations in the Philippines affected by two typhoons that devastated the Philippines.
Supertyphoon Goni and Typhoon Ulysses ravaged Luzon island within a span of a few days. Floodwaters submerged entire farming communities in the provinces of Bicol, Cagayan and Isabela. Many of those communities have farmers’ organisations actively working towards our shared goals of defending rights to land, promoting agroecology, and upholding people’s food sovereignty. The back to back typhoons have affected 150,000 farmers, with agricultural damage estimated at PHP 10 billion (USD 207.5 million).
The impacts of the typhoon were compounded by environmentally destructive projects — particularly, quarrying and large-scale mining projects that have denuded the mountains and contributed to massive flooding, as well as the unregulated release of water from mega dams. Government delivery of aid has been unbearably slow and insufficient, and many farming areas have yet to be reached.
Our partner organisations in the Philippines will be conducting relief missions in the next few days and weeks. If you wish to contribute, you can donate via international bank transfer or Paypal. Please see below for details.
If you have contributed, please kindly do let us know so we can acknowledge you.
Thank you very much!
In solidarity,
PAN Asia Pacific
