Job Title: Campaign Coordinator

Location: Penang

Contract: 12 months (with possibility of renewal subject to funding)

Hours: Full Time

Travel Requirements: The post will involve international, Asian and national travel.

Closing date & Interviews: The closing date for applications is 20th February 2023 Interviews will be held in the week commencing 21st Feb 2023

PANAP works with a vibrant array of civil society and people’s organisations and movements in the Asia-Pacific region. With over 100 partners, including broad coalitions of farmers, rural women, agricultural workers and indigenous people that it actively builds and supports, PANAP is committed to the reduction of pesticide use, the promotion of agroecology, food sovereignty, gender justice and human rights.

PANAP and its partners are focused on women and men, small holder farmers, landless agricultural workers and plantation workers, and indigenous communities. PANAP’s capacity building, learning exchanges, exposures and training helps strengthen people’s organisations as well as supported the leadership and involvement of the most affected – the women farmers and agricultural workers. PANAP is part of an international network of working to replace the use of hazardous pesticides with ecologically sound and socially just alternatives.

The Role

We are looking for a passionate individual to coordinate PANAP’s campaigns to eliminate the harm of pesticides on human health and the environment and to advance agroecology.  Specifically the role includes:

  • Consensus building among all partners to unite on and collectively define strategic campaign goals and desired outcomes
  • Facilitates the process of developing with partners effective and appropriate campaign strategies to achieve the goals and deliver the outcomes
  • Coordinates the implementation and ensures synergy of all activities under the campaigns at the national, regional and international levels
  • Closely monitors and analyses all relevant developments, trends and issues at the regional and global levels to effectively guide the campaigns
  • Consults regularly and proactively with partners to address in a timely manner current or emerging challenges or difficulties that may impact the achievement of the campaigns’ goals and objectives
  • Ensures that the campaigns adhere to and enrich PANAP’s Theory of Change

Capacity building

  • Organizes activities that will help build the capacity of partners to implement the campaigns’ plans and strategic objectives, including on specific skills such as participatory action research and documentation, etc; as well as facilitating exchanges of learnings and experiences
  • Facilitates the use of existing and develops new campaign tools and materials to assist partners in implementing the campaigns
  • Builds the capacity of other community-based organizations, CSOs and other stakeholders to help implement the campaigns’ plans and achieve their strategic goals

Relationship development

  • Develops positive and mutually beneficial relationships with the UN, CSOs and regional platforms and governments for the purposes of networking and broadening support for the campaigns, policy advocacy, resource acquisition and mobilization, etc.
  • Participates in relevant networks and coalitions at various levels towards the attainment of campaigns’ strategic goals

Required Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • Educational level required: Undergraduate or Graduate degree, preferably in sciences, social sciences, public health, management, development studies or other related fields
  • Language requirement: Fluency in English both verbal and written
  • The following skills are desired:
    • Writing skills, especially the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and coherent way
    • Basic computer skills
    • Basic public speaking and communication skills

Experience:

  • Five years or more, experience working in programme implementation, campaign coordination or programme management
  • Experience in policy advocacy at the regional and global levels

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a network organisation, have a track record of successful fundraising and experience of campaigning and successfully influencing change. You will have a background in policy analysis and developing policy agendas to support campaigns and advocacy. You will have a thorough understanding of how advocacy and lobbying, public campaigning and media can combine to deliver policy change.  You will possess outstanding organisational, planning and communication skills.

Hours: Part-time (10-20 days a month)

Pesticide Action Network Asia Pacific (PANAP) works with a vibrant array of civil society and people’s organisations and movements in the Asia-Pacific region. With over 100 partners, including broad coalitions of farmers, rural women, agricultural workers and indigenous people that it actively builds and supports, PANAP is committed to the reduction of pesticide use, the promotion of agroecology, food sovereignty, gender justice and human rights. PANAP is the regional coordinating centre for PAN International with 600 CSOs at the global level.

We are looking for an outstanding, dynamic and committed person to support the engagement in ASEAN and other regional institutions. As Research and Policy Officer, you will be responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring PANAP’s engagement with relevant ASEAN secretariat departments and regional institutes.  You will be supported with technical expertise by the PANAP team.

Specific responsibilities 1. Research and Policy Advocacy • Help to develop and articulate clear and measurable advocacy objectives within South East Asia.  • Establish coherent plans and activities to achieve the objectives. Build strategic relationships among decision makers, experts, allies, partners and other stakeholders

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have solid, demonstrable experience of campaigning / advocacy and successfully influencing positive change. You will have a thorough understanding of how advocacy and lobbying, public campaigning and media can combine to deliver policy change. You will possess outstanding strategic thinking, demonstrable planning, and compelling communication skills.

Skills, knowledge and abilities Essential Expertise/Experience

  • At least seven years’ advocacy experience
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing successful advocacy campaigns;
  • Experience of advocacy strategy development, planning and management
  • Hands-on experience of advocacy, especially directed at ASEAN and United Nations institutions in South East Asia;
  • Experience of successfully mobilising allies / networks of allies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
