PANAP with its partners have been working on a secondary study on the impacts of pesticides on human health, environment and food in Bangladesh, India, Laos and Vietnam. This secondary study intends to shed light on the detrimental relationships between pesticide exposure and various aspects of our ecosystem, paving the way for informed strategies that focuses on agroecology for the human and environmental well-being.

The objective of this  secondary study is to:

  1. To determine the pesticide impacts on human health, environment, food and climate in the past 10 years through secondary research.
  2. To view the actions from governments/policy makers to mitigate problem caused by the mentioned pesticides in the 10-year period.
  3. To view the actions from local CSOs to mitigate problem caused by the mentioned pesticides in the 10-year period.

The secondary research focuses on three main aspects:

  • Pesticide impacts on human health
  • Pesticide impacts on the environment
  • Pesticide impacts on food/crops

and one additional aspect:

  • Pesticide impacts on climate change.

We are currently seeking a scientific report writer capable of consolidating reports from our partners and producing a comprehensive report on the impacts of pesticides on human health, the environment, and food in Bangladesh, India, Laos, and Vietnam.

Responsibilities:

The report writer will be responsible for consolidating the data and reports obtained from these four countries and drafting a regional report based on the provided outline. Additionally, the writer should be able to compose the introduction, conclusion, and recommendations for the report. The report consolidation and writing deadline will be on November.

Outline

  1. Executive Summary of the report

Summarise the information from the reports from the 4 countries to attract readers

  1. Introduction

Give descriptions of the impacts of pesticides faced by farmers, community (rural and urban) and environment in the region based on the reports from the region based on the reports

  1. Methodology

Describe the methodology used for the study.

  1. Consolidation of the 4 countries reports

Consolidate the report provided by the partners from the four countries. Add information or data on the impacts of pesticides based on your research.

  1. Results and Discussion

Pesticides impacts on human health in 4 countries especially on:

  • Health impacts (both chronic and acute) faced by farmers, community, rural women, agricultural workers, children and the community due to exposure to the mentioned pesticides.
  • Names of the active ingredients of the pesticides and a short description the effects of the pesticides found in the study.
  • Gender-disaggregated information

Pesticides impacts on environment in 4 countries especially on:

  • Impacts of the mentioned pesticides on the environment [soil (loss of soil health, etc.), waterways (contamination of rivers and water sources), and other environmental factors].
  • Information highlighting contamination within and exceeding the maximum residual level.
  • Information on how these pesticides is affecting climate as well.
  • Names of the active ingredients of the pesticides and a short description the effects of the pesticides found in the study.

Pesticides impacts on food/crop in 4 countries especially on:

  • Exposure and the impacts of the mentioned pesticides on crops (fruits and vegetables) and food.
  • Information highlighting contamination within and exceeding the maximum residual level.
  • Names of the active ingredients of the pesticides and a short description the effects of the pesticides found in the study.
  1. Overview of the region

Develop an overview on the issues of pesticides residue in the Asia Pacific region.

  1. Conclusion & Recommendation

Mention about the prominent pesticides that has affected the region from the 4 countries in terms human health, environment and food and what needs to be done (call for action) in order to stop these pesticides. Provide recommendation to the 4 countries on the best way forward in phasing out pesticides.T
