We come together in outrage as the genocidal famine in Gaza, orchestrated by the Israeli regime and supported by its imperialist allies led by the United States (US), continues to take countless Palestinian lives.
The grim situation in Palestine has only worsened since the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification officially declared a famine. The number of Palestinians killed has surged past 65,000, with some scientists and scholars claiming that the cumulative death toll from Israel’s genocide may be closer to 680,000. The Ministry of Health in Gaza reports that tens of thousands of women and children have been killed. Out of the cumulative death toll of 680,000, it is estimated that 380,000 of those killed are infants under five. Famine-related deaths are estimated at more than 400, including more than 140 children, a direct and intended outcome of Israel’s weaponization of food.
It is not only starvation that kills, but militarised aid sites too. Over the past 23 months, it is estimated that nearly 3,000 aid seekers have been killed by Israel, including murders at the US-Israeli-administered Gaza Humanitarian Foundation death traps.
At the recent UN General Assembly, the world witnessed a stark contrast: while the majority of nations condemned the slaughter and famine, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu doubled down on his genocidal rhetoric, boasting of military operations and rejecting a sovereign Palestinian state. More critically, US imperialism has provided unwavering diplomatic cover, using its platform not to promote peace but to justify the ongoing massacre and undermine international institutions. European nations also sustain their imperial legacies in their diplomatic, financial, and military support to the ongoing genocide, only recently having chosen to act with images of starving children. Yet still, they fail to bring an end to the genocide.
By providing unlimited military aid, vetoing ceasefire resolutions at the UN Security Council, and essentially green-lighting the heartless massacre of Palestinian civilians and children, US and Western imperialism more broadly has proven itself a direct accomplice to Israeli war crimes. This continues a long history of US and Western imperialism shielding Israel from accountability, ensuring the continuation of its illegal occupation and apartheid system.
The evidence of a deliberate, systematic strategy of starvation is overwhelming.
Israel’s deliberate blocking of aid continues. Over half a million people face catastrophic hunger, and the famine has now spread throughout Gaza. US-made bombs destroy food supplies, stores, and warehouses while US politicians help block aid at the border.
The destruction of Palestinian agriculture is relentless. More than 2.5 million olive trees and 75% of Gaza’s farmland have been destroyed as part of a scorched-earth strategy designed to make Palestine uninhabitable. The uprooting of centuries-old olive trees in the West Bank and Gaza is a deliberate attack on Palestinian culture, history, and their deep connection to the land.
We strongly condemn the Netanyahu regime’s genocidal campaign and US and Western imperialist policies that fuel and sustain it. Each famine-related death is a murder, and each veto at the UN Security Council is an endorsement of that crime.
We unite in our demands for urgent and decisive action.
-
Implement an immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire to stop the mass killing and enable aid delivery at the necessary scale.
-
Allow unrestricted humanitarian access through the immediate opening of all border crossings for the safe and continuous flow of aid, and an end to all Israeli military obstructions.
-
Terminate all US and global military aid to Israel, including funding and weapons transfers that support this genocide.
-
Boycott, divest, sanction, and hold accountable all enabling and complicit actors, including private and corporate entities, profiting off of genocide, ecocide, the weaponisation of starvation, and the settler colonial occupation of Palestine.
-
Protect agricultural resources and end the destruction of Palestinian farmland and water sources. The right to produce food is a fundamental human right.
-
Impose sanctions on Israel and pursue investigation and prosecution of its top officials, including Netanyahu, through the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). All nations bear the responsibility to fulfill their legal duty to prevent genocide.
-
Work concretely for the liberation of Palestine, as defined by Palestinians, from Israel’s illegal settler colonial occupation.
The ongoing famine challenges our shared humanity. We resolutely support the Palestinian people and their right to live in freedom, dignity, and sovereignty on their land. We will keep exposing and opposing US imperialism and its client state until justice is served.
We support the upcoming Right to Resist: International People’s Tribunal (IPT) on Palestine that is taking place on November 22 to 23 in Barcelona, Spain, as a platform to further expose the US-backed Zionist occupation, forced starvation, and ecocide in Palestine, and to demand justice and accountability.
Finally, we salute the unbreakable spirit and courage of the Palestinian people, who, despite decades of ruthless occupation and ongoing genocide, continue to firmly defend their inalienable right to exist and self-determination. Their admirable strength is a powerful testament to the human will for justice and freedom.
Their righteous struggle resonates strongly in a global wave of solidarity, where millions worldwide are mobilizing through various forms of resistance. These include the tireless efforts of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, bold student occupations in university campuses, and massive demonstrations filling the streets of world capitals, among others. Such global solidarity affirms that the fight for justice and freedom cannot be extinguished even by the most brutal forms of annihilation. ###
