The worsening food crisis is generating greater resistance to defending the right to\u00a0land<\/span>. Rural people across the world are resisting imperialism \u2013 the world\u2019s biggest landgrabber.<\/p>\n

Neoliberal policies enabling landgrabs, such as those promoted by the upcoming WB\u00a0Land<\/span>\u00a0Conference in May, are facing backlash worldwide. Imperialist wars and state repression are also defied, as we have seen in the continuing Palestinian resistance and the growing global solidarity against the US-Israel genocidal war. The\u00a0landless<\/span>\u00a0are standing their ground to challenge unjust\u00a0land<\/span>\u00a0laws and urge for genuine agrarian reform through\u00a0land<\/span>\u00a0occupations.<\/p>\n

Asserting our right to\u00a0land<\/span>\u00a0is exercising our right to resist, and we do so in all its forms to break the chains of imperialism \u2013 including its neoliberal reforms and aggression \u2013 that bleed our\u00a0land<\/span>\u00a0and food systems dry of profit and blood.<\/p>\n

As such, we are marking this year\u2019s\u00a0Day<\/span>\u00a0of the\u00a0Landless<\/span>\u00a0with the call\u00a0\u201cAssert our right to\u00a0land<\/span>, exercise our right to resist!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Day<\/span>\u00a0of the\u00a0Landless<\/span>\u00a0was originally coined by the Asian Peasant Coalition in 2015, marking its founding anniversary. The People\u2019s Coalition on Food Sovereignty has adopted DOTL in 2018 as an annual global action to give spotlight on the issue of global\u00a0landlessness<\/span>\u00a0and highlight the\u00a0land<\/span>\u00a0struggles of rural peoples in the Global South.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s DOTL campaign is designed to extend until May, in time for the World Bank\u00a0Land<\/span>\u00a0Conference (13-17 May 2024) and Palestine\u2019s\u00a0Day<\/span>\u00a0of Return (15 May). May is also the ILPS Global Month of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.<\/p>\n
